OBJECTIVE: Support the development and production of original musical theatre while creating opportunities for artists and audiences in Denver and at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
BACKGROUND
Viewmark has a long history of supporting the performing arts. Eigg the Musical grew from that commitment, bringing together writers, musicians, actors, designers, and technicians to transform the remarkable story of Scotland’s Isle of Eigg into an original stage musical.
CHALLENGE
Develop, produce, and promote a completely original musical in Denver, then take the production to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe—introducing an unfamiliar story to audiences on both sides of the Atlantic.
SOLUTION
Viewmark combined theatrical production with the same creative and strategic thinking we bring to media and communications. From developing the music and story to branding, digital promotion, photography, video, and audience outreach, Eigg became a fully realized production with a life beyond its original Denver run. Its journey to Edinburgh demonstrated how a small independent production can build an audience, tell a meaningful story, and compete on an international stage.
OUTCOME
Eigg the Musical made its Edinburgh Festival Fringe debut in 2023, where performances sold out nearly every night and the production attracted significant attention from Scottish audiences and critics. The Scots Reviewer praised its storytelling and performances, writing that the show had “great potential to be something big” and comparing its possibilities to Sunshine on Leith.
The production went on to receive BroadwayWorld Denver Readers’ Choice Awards for Best Musical and Best New Musical, along with awards for Best Director and Best Supporting Actor. What began as a Denver performing arts project had successfully found an enthusiastic international audience.
